The Best Video Games with Dinosaurs – Because Everything’s Better with Giant Prehistoric Beasts

Let’s be honest—dinosaurs make everything better. You can slap a T-Rex into almost any game and instantly make it more fun. And yet, for some reason, we don’t have nearly enough great dinosaur games.

Sure, we’ve got plenty of zombies, aliens, and robots, but when it comes to games that let you actually hunt, fight, or survive alongside dinosaurs, the selection is weirdly small.

But there are some gems—games that actually let you face off against prehistoric monsters, tame them, or build entire worlds around them.

So, if you’re looking for a game that lets you ride a raptor, fight a cyber-T-Rex, or just survive in a world where dinosaurs still roam, these are the best ones out there.

1. Monster Hunter: World & Monster Hunter Rise (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch)

  • The closest thing to fighting real dinosaurs in an open world.
  • Huge monsters like Anjanath (basically a T-Rex) and Deviljho (a pissed-off, oversized Allosaurus).
  • Co-op multiplayer lets you and your friends hunt massive beasts together.
  • Deep combat and gear progression keep the game engaging for hundreds of hours.

If you want epic battles against prehistoric-looking creatures, Monster Hunter: World and Rise are as good as it gets.

2. Horizon Zero Dawn & Horizon Forbidden West (PlayStation, PC)

  • Not technically dinosaurs—but close enough.
  • Instead of real dinos, you fight robotic versions of T-Rexes, raptors, and pterosaurs.
  • Massive open world, with some of the best creature designs in gaming.
  • A great story and deep exploration make this more than just an action game.

If you’ve ever wanted to fight a robotic T-Rex with a bow, this is your game.

3. ARK: Survival Evolved (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch)

  • The ultimate survival game with dinosaurs.
  • You can tame, ride, and even breed dinosaurs to build your own prehistoric army.
  • Massive open world, with tribes, base-building, and multiplayer survival gameplay.
  • It’s buggy as hell, but if you love dinosaurs, it’s worth it.

There’s nothing quite like riding a T-Rex into battle, and ARK lets you do just that.

4. Jurassic World Evolution 1 & 2 (PC, PlayStation, Xbox)

  • It’s basically SimCity, but with dinosaurs.
  • You build and manage your own Jurassic Park—including researching, breeding, and (inevitably) dealing with dinosaurs breaking loose.
  • Gorgeous visuals and tons of customization make it the best dino park sim out there.

If you’ve ever wanted to prove you could run a better Jurassic Park than John Hammond, this is your chance.

5. Turok (Classic & Remastered) (PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch)

  • One of the OG dinosaur-hunting games.
  • First-person shooter where you fight dinosaurs, aliens, and cyborgs with over-the-top weapons.
  • Pure 90s action nostalgia, with a ridiculous plot and cheesy but fun gameplay.

If you want old-school FPS chaos with dinosaurs, Turok is still a classic.

6. Second Extinction (PC, Xbox)

  • Basically Left 4 Dead, but with dinosaurs.
  • Co-op multiplayer shooter where you take on mutant dinosaurs in large-scale battles.
  • Fast-paced, chaotic gameplay with massive dinosaur hordes to fight.

It’s still in early access, but if you want a modern dino shooter, this is one to watch.

7. Primal Carnage (PC)

  • Multiplayer game where you can play as humans OR dinosaurs.
  • Humans use guns and traps, dinosaurs use jaws and claws.
  • A fun, fast-paced arena shooter that never takes itself too seriously.

If you’ve ever wanted to be a raptor hunting down human players, this is the game for you.

8. Dino Crisis (Classic) (PlayStation, PC via Emulation)

  • It’s Resident Evil, but with dinosaurs.
  • Survival horror gameplay, except instead of zombies, you’re being hunted by raptors.
  • Classic PS1-era tension and puzzles.

Dino Crisis is long overdue for a remake, but if you love old-school survival horror, it’s worth playing.

Final Thoughts: Why Aren’t There More Dinosaur Games?

For some reason, gaming has never fully embraced dinosaurs the way it has zombies, aliens, or post-apocalyptic wastelands.

Maybe it’s because real dinosaurs don’t fit neatly into typical gaming genres, or maybe developers think they need a sci-fi or horror twist to make them interesting.

But if Monster Hunter, Horizon, and ARK prove anything, it’s that fighting, taming, or surviving against dinosaurs is always fun.

Now someone just needs to remake Dino Crisis already.
